The Intermediate course is a hefty step up from the Foundation, the course expands on the subjects learnt in the Foundation and introduces additional areas to study. I used the OARC course, with the extra help of GM6DX's online study course.
The rewards include a maximum 100w ouput, extra bands (also included in EX308) and a new M8/M9 callsign (previously 2E0xxx).
Training Sites
OU - An introduction to electronics
Although not a radio course, this 10-hour introduction to electronics may be a worthwhile course for those with little or no electronics knowledge. A tried, tested and free course from the Open University.
OARC - Online Amateur Radio Community Intermediate course details *
This is a "fast track" online course. I would suggest some amount of self-paced training prior to attending the course. The cost is £5, which is excellent value, and the course takes place via an hour and a half video meeting on a Wednesday evening. If you are unable to attend, you can catch up the next day. A great feeling of community, learning and almost instant access to tutors via Discord. Once you have completed training, the Discord server is worth staying a member of, as there are lots of useful topics and knowledgeable members.
South Bristol Amateur Radio Club
A well laid out site providing slides and printable notes, with a breakdown of question types and a percentage rate of each subject. The course notes have not been updated to the 1.6 syllabus, but until it is updated is still a useful tool for studying other aspects.
"Getting Tae Grips" *
Intermediate Licence NEW Course created by Billy GM6DX to help you pass your RSGB Intermediate Amateur Radio Licence. Now the only course provided by Billy, but the training is extremely well laid out and comprehensive. The site also has many mock exams.
Bath Distance Learning *
No details of the course are available at the moment. To request dates of the courses or enroll contact Steve, G0FUW, via e-mail to g0fuw@tiscali.co.uk
Bath Distance learning is recognised as one of the best online training suppliers.
Cray Valley Radio Society
Face-to-face training runs over three Saturdays.
Harwell Amateur Radio Society (HARS)
Courses run at the club and online when demand requires. Either type of course is £10, and the club cover all 3 licences.
Chesham & District Amateur Radio Society
A set of slides from their training courses and a large database of test questions for all courses. I am trying to verify if they have been updated for syllabus 1.6. Requires you register your email address for access.
* Confirmed updated to 2024 syllabus 1.6
